The end of the Porno Class
April 29, 2006 at 12:29 pm | Posted in Uncategorized | Leave a commentWhen I first registered for this class, I thought it would be an easy A. I think my exact thoughts were, "An online class? YESS!" But soon after a week, I realized that definitly was not the case. I was totally not expecting the class to be so interactive and for me to learn so much about the pornography industry.
I would have never thought that pornography has so much to do with technology. Or how your gender plays a significant role in pornography films. I never even looked at prostitution from the other side. I never knew how many laws and rules there are. Or how there can be so many perspectives on what is sexually explicit and what is not.
In the beginning of the course, I thought that the blogging aspect of this course was a waste of time. Especially the fact that we had to search through our classmates blogs and comment on them as well. But now, I realize how beneficial it is to do so. As well as having the blogs anonymous. By searching through other classmates' blogs, you can see what other people feel on a certain situation… their opinions and viewpoints. You might read their blog and they might have written something that you totally did not think about. Also, since the blogs are anonymous, the author can write whatever he or she wants without feeling embarrassed or anything like that.
I think the most important lesson I learned in this class, is that when I'm a parent, to do my best to shield my children from this industry. Obviously, I can do so only up to a certain point, however, I'll do my very best. This world is so full of bad things, but instead of blaming the world or the government… I'd blame myself if my child was trapped in it.
A couple of my friends who are communication majors asked me about this course. And I honestly told them that it is a lot of work.. not what you would expect from an online course. However, you learn so much from it. I don't regret taking this course, even if it means that I didn't get an "easy A". Because I think the lessons learned outweighs a grade.
.. but an A wouldn't hurt either.
Kanamara Marsuri
April 29, 2006 at 10:53 am | Posted in Uncategorized | Leave a comment"The Kanamara Marsuri (Festival of the Steel Phallus) is an annual Shinto fertility festival held in Kawasaki, Japan in spring. The exact dates vary, but the main festivities fall on a Sunday. The penis forms the central theme of the event that's reflected everywhere, in illustrations, candy, carved vegetables, decoration, a parade of mikoshis, etc, etc.
The Kanamara Marsuri is centered around a local penis-venerating shrine, once popular among prostitutes who wished to pray for protection against sexually transmitted diseases. Today, the festival is used to raise money for HIV research. There's also a legend of a demon that hid inside a young girl and castrated two young men on their wedding nights before a blacksmith fashioned an iron phallus that was used to break the demon's teeth, leading to the enshrinement of the item." -Article found here.

Besides helping to raise money for HIV research, I also think it's cause they anything to do with sex.
Adult Zones
April 27, 2006 at 9:10 am | Posted in Uncategorized | 1 CommentI was driving in Pennsylvania this past weekend and when I stopped to get gas at a local gas station, I thought of this blog. The author of this blog talks about "how these 'adult' zones were determines, and why they were placed where they were." And also, like this author also stated, in Lecture 27, zoning laws are discussed in which there should be adult zones and non adult zones.
So why did this local gas station make me think about this class? As I was in their mini mart, paying gas… there was a sign by the register that said, "Adult Videos For Rent. Must Be 18 or older. ID is reqired. Return in 5 days."
When did gas stations start selling porn? Does Pennsylvania have no zoning laws? Or is it just that those types of towns have no other place to sell them, so they just combine everything in one store.
Just thought it was interesting…

Another porno-rific blog
April 23, 2006 at 10:49 pm | Posted in Uncategorized | Leave a commentAs I was googling other porn blogs on the internet, I came across this one. I found it very versatile, meaning that it was not just about posting pictures or things like that. It actually had some politics in there as well.
What interested me was her most recent entry. She talks about a new law that the Bush administration is proposing found here.
"The Bust administration's proposal would require commercial Web sites to place "marks and notices" to be devised by the Federal Trade Commission on each exually explicit page. The definition of sexually explicit broadly covers depictions of everything from sexual intercourse and masturbation to "sadistic abuse" and close-ups of fully clothed genital regions."
If you are caught doing so, you could spend up to 5 years in prison.
I understand what Bush is trying to say, however he might have worded it wrong. The author of this blog points out that women may have camel toe while in a photograph. Women don't intentionally have camel toe, it's just something that happens.
However, I do understand what Bush is trying to say. You can definitly be extremely explicit even when you are fully clothed. Maybe Bush should change it and say something like, "… and close-ups of fully clothed genital regions in a sexual matter".
I think there are 2 sides to everything. Anything can be viewed sexually, just depends on how the person is viewing it. How do you make a law about perspectives?

When did you first learn that you were gay and how did your family and friends take it?
What made you go into the porn industry?
Lost In Translation
April 21, 2006 at 9:45 pm | Posted in Uncategorized | Leave a commentI was watching Lost In Translation in one of my classes today and they showed a scene of a Japanese prostitute going into Bill Murray's room. She then very obviously hinted to Bill Murray that she was there for sex, which he didn't want. She then proceeded to tellin him to "rip her stockings". However, when he would touch her to sort of push her away, she would get really dramatic and go, "Oh, don't touch me, let me go." (Something to that affect) This went on for about 5 minutes.
How come guys like the girl to play the role of being helpless? In this movie's case Bill Murray did not want to have sex with her, but in real life guys get turned on by this. How come that Japanese prostitute did that to try and turn him on?
I think its because guys like to be the one with the most power and authority and they feed off a girl. What does everyone else think?
When Do Kids Hit Puberty?
April 21, 2006 at 9:20 pm | Posted in Uncategorized | Leave a commentWhen kids hit puberty.. the physical features are noticeable and normal with every other kid. However, what about in the kids head or even down in the private parts. How do you when a child is mature enough to be viewing or having sex? Or better yet, who says when a child is?
In Chapter 10, on page 169, it says, "First, there are sexually impressionable children who are exposed to pornographic materials at an age before they have matured enough to effectively understand and evaluate such images and stories. Second, children are harmed when they are forced to appear in child pornography."
Who has the right to say when a child has matured or not. Some people mature faster than others and can handle the industry of sex. Perhaps the children know what they're doing and are willing to appear in child pornography. And when asked, they just put on an act.
In some countries, a boy enters adulthood by age 12. Girls become married by age 9. So are they ready for marriage which of course involves sex? Perhaps by the age of 9 every person is ready for sex, however depending on the society, you think that you're not.
I know that this is far stretched, but hey it could happen.
Parents start doing your job!
April 14, 2006 at 1:31 pm | Posted in Uncategorized | Leave a commentI was listening to the radio link on how children come across pornography on the internet. Someone called in saying that they put parental controls on their computer, but one time they forgot to put it back on after using the computer. They then looked at the history and saw that their daughter was looking at pornography with her friend.
Who's fault is that? The internet for putting pornography avaible for the world to see? Or is it society's fault? Her child said that she got the website from friends an taht everyone is looking at it… so is it their friends fault?
I believe that it's the parents fault. Yes, there are countless factors that can influence how much a child has access to pornography. However, I feel that the sole persons that can regulate a child’s consumption are the parents. They are the two adults that the child will be with the most as well as admire the most. Yes, other factors can affect a child , however, if a parent gives a foundation of what is good or not, no one will be able to really affect them enough to influence them.
I understand that it is putting all the responsibility on a parent, but isn’t that what parents are for? They are responsible for the upbringing of the child. They try to shield him or her from any harm, teach them the good and bad things of life. If a person isn’t ready for that, then they shouldn’t be a parent.
A parent can put parental contols on the television or the computer, but how affective can that be? There are a number of ways that a child can bypass that. It goes back to the saying, "Rules are meant to be broken."
I think parents blame society and anything else because they aren't exactly going to blame themselves. They have to find a scapegoat. That's why the blame society, the government, the schools, the companies, friends. However, the parent's need to give children a firm foundation so that his issue would not happen.
Perhaps a reason why a child is viewing pornography or things like that is because they aren't being educated on what pornography or sexual intercourse is. I know some parents are too shy or embarassed to talk to their kids about sex, so maybe the kid needs to find another way to learn about it. Therefore they turn to pornography.
That is why I believe that it is the parent's responsiblity or teach a child from what is right and wrong. And also to teach them everything so that they wouldn't have to educate themselves. They need to start taking the blame for things that they aren't doing.
